Frequently Asked Questions
You can book onto an antenatal course whenever is convenient for you, but I recommend booking so that you begin attending the classes from 26 weeks at the earliest and 33 weeks at the latest. The information will be more relevant to this stage of your pregnancy and the activities will be more accessible.
Yes!! As a midwife, I really recognise and value the importance of hypnobirthing during pregnancy and birth and emphasise that mindset is extremely important. Having done some informal hypnobirthing study days and learnt the basics through my day job, I decided I want to cement my learning to include it on the courses. In September of this year, I am undertaking hypnobirthing training with the Perinatal Academy so there will be some hypnobirthing elements and techniques included in my antenatal classes from November.
Classes are suitable whether this is your first, second, third or more baby. However, those who have birthed before may not find them as useful. It may be helpful to attend if you are interested in any topics in the course, or if you are new to Leeds and wish to meet new expectant parents in the area.
As with the previous question, you are welcome to attend a course if you are planning an elective caesarean section. However, although we discuss emergency C-sections in session three, electives can be a very different experience and the first two sessions are not relevant for this mode of birth. Keep your eye out on my social media pages for specific evening sessions dedicated to planned caesarean section birth.
Of course. At booking, you will be required to pay a £50 non-refundable deposit to secure your place. You will then receive details on how to pay the remaining course fee, which will need to be fully paid at least 2 weeks before the course begins. If you wish to speak with me about paying and finances, do get in touch.
